Dahiuchang Limestone Quarry Railway

Located south of Beijing the 762mm double track railway transported limestone about a kilometer from the quarry to the cement works.  The line was worked by the ubiquitous class C2 0-8-0 tender locomotives.  At the quarry the train was propelled into a tunnel were the wagons were loaded from a bunker fed from the quarry.  At the tippler house the loco was detached from the train and the wagons moved by gravity through the tippler with progress being regulated by a man sticking a steel bar into a hole in a wheel!  Half way along the line was a level crossing.  Approaching the crossing a bar on the cab roof operated a contact which rang a bell in the crossing keepers hut as a signal to him to lower the barriers.
