On the 2nd May 1992 following a period of display at the National Railway Museum, "City of Truro" passes through Alfreton on its way to the Midland Railway Centre, Butterley. The following day it was to make its final mainline run under its then current boiler certificate from Derby to Paddington. From Paddington it was transported by road to Truro for static display outside Truro Cathedral before a three month tour of West Country preserved lines.
